The Manchester United of Matt Busby

Manchester United is one of ,if not the biggest football club in the whole world. To most people this club might be known as the club that was coached by the great Sir Alex Ferguson but before him it was someone else who laid the actual foundation of the club.Manchester United plays in the premier league, highest level of the men's football league system in England. This football club is based in Greater Manchester of England.Orginally, the club was founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878 but in 1902,it changed it’s name to Manchester United. In the early days of the club,it had some really tough days but as time went on and more investments came in,things started to look better for them.In 1908,Manchester United won their first ever league title.Following that season they also had their first ever Charity shield and FA cup as well.In 1911 they had their second first division title. But all these momentum of winning games and trophies were stopped because of the world war later on.However, after the end of the world war, their form was not the same. The club was relegated to the second division and proceeded to achieve the lowest rank possible,20th place in 1934.This scenario of poor performances went on until the beginning of world war 2.After the end of world war 2,just before the club football was resumed, the club appointed Matt Busby, who would be the one to change the clubs fortune forever.Even though at first his work seemed a bit off-traditional,demanding control over team selections, training sessions and player transfers, later on it all proved to work out as the club won the first division in 1952,its first league title for over 41 years. They also won back to back league tittles in 1956-57.However,a huge tragedy occurred in 1958,taking 23 lives of the Manchester United team, which was travelling back after a game in the European cup quarter final. In those 23 lives,8 of them was first team players. This horrific event held back the coach Matt Busby from participating in any football in that season.Still the makeshift side of the remaining players, with their assistant coach Jimmy Murphy leading them, made it to the finals of the FA cup, where they lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Busby rebuilt the team through the 1960s by signing players such as Denis Law and Pat Crerand, who combined with the next generation of youth players – including George Best – to win the FA Cup in 1963.In 1965 and 1967 they won the league title and in 1968 they became the first English club to win the European cup. However the chapter of Matt Busby did not end well as he was forced to resign after their loss in the 1968 Intercontinental Cup against Estudiantes of Argentina.
