Location & facts

This so called red beach is located in Dawa County, Panjin, Liaoning, China. It is based in the biggest wetland and reed marsh in the world, found in the Liaohe River Delta in Panjin.

The beach is called "The Red Beach" because of the plant called red seepweeds (Suaeda salsa). Suaeda salsa belongs to the Chenopodiaceae family that can grow on highly alkaline lands. This wetland so alkali that this is the only plant that can easily thrive on the beach. They usually grow in April and later its colour starts to turn to bright red and create a hypnotic scene. They remain green in Summer, and turn red around Autumn.

It is a state-level nature protection area that has more that 260 kinds of birds and 399 kinds of wild animals living in it.

The best time to visit this beautiful landscape is from middle September to middle October, it is when the plants flourish and turn red.
